a textured ceiling ....especially with popcorn... dates the living room back to the 80's





When you remove the popcorn ...it will give the room a more contemporary look.





If you paint the ceiling a light color it will make the room look bigger.





Pay special attention to putting it great lighting before you finish the ceiling.
