Can you re-texture African American hair?

Ok I am a black woman and the person that just answered is obviously not. No hair is flat! Our hair is curly and it is different textures on different people. Either you have a tighter curl pattern or looser. No you can not ';re-texture'; but you can apply product to make a looser curl pattern or straighten it all together.

you're right. i'm not a black woman.

however, as the link shows, African hair is, indeed, flattened, which is the main reason it's curly.

you probably can't.

maybe the difference is greatest between African and Asian.

the difference is that Asian is cylindrical, and African is, i've been lead to believe, flattened.

that allows one side to grow faster than the other, which causes the curling.

i've read that there are straightening methods, but they only work on hair that's already visible, not hair that hasn't been extruded from the follicle yet.

while there are lots of folks that disagree with me, my preference is that hair be as natural as possible. that allows the owner to keep the scalp as healthy as possible.
